After experimenting with multiple mob farm designs I've come to the conclusion that the new mob cap that was introduced hurts pretty much all designs, currently hovering near 300 spawners and the rate of money earned is 250k/hour.
It is now more profitable to go with other jobs than Hunter because of the effort you have to put into obtaining spawners and building farms.

@MunsterMc Yeah Hunter has been quite a troublemaker in terms of balancing, though the mob cap was placed not only to balance but also to prevent mass pig/sheep/cow farms that would potentially cause trouble.

The mob cap was not limited to reduce just lag but was limited instead to nerf the Hunter job as it was to OP.

Thats not true pff, didnt just nerf it completely rect hunter
